At travelling with animals outside the territory of the EU, import conditions established by the competent veterinary authority of the third country of destination (and, where necessary, also the country of transit) must be met. The person accompanying pet animals should always inform of up-to-date animal health import /transit conditions – directly at the relevant competent veterinary authority or, at the embassy of the given third country (which may have the conditions at its disposal as well).

Note: At these links are usually published conditions for non-commercial movement (traveling) only. In case of commercial movement (import), it is necessary to contact directly the competent veterinary authority of the relevant third country (if the conditions are not published) in order to verify the conditions.

In case of
a) a third country requires an official stamp and signature for any document (f.e. the issuance of the animal health certificate) the documents submitted by the owner, provided that the conditions set out in the document are met, will be confirmed by the official veterinarian of the locally competent Regional Veterinary Administration (RVA). It is the competence of the official veterinarian of the relevant RVA to request a official translation of the veterinary certificate into the Czech language. The owner arrives at the relevant RVA during office hours or by prior arrangement with documents that confirm the fulfillment of the conditions specified in the veterinary certificate required by the third country of destination (you do not have to take your pet with you);
b) a third country of destination requires the issuance of a veterinary certificate and does not specify its own import conditions or form of animal health certificate, the general veterinary certificate for dogs and cats can be used for traveling with dogs or cats upon authorisation by the competent veterinary authority of the given third country;
c) a third country (e.g. Brazil, Panama) requires verification of a veterinary certificate, passport or other identification document by a central competent authority (so-called superlegalization), it will be carried out by the Central Veterinary Administration. Pursuant to Act No 634/2004 on administrative fees, as amended, the issuance of the animal health certificate for the export of animals is subject to an administrative fee charged by the territorially competent Regional Veterinary Administration at the following rate:
- per one animal CZK 50
- per more than one animal CZK 100
- for official verification of the passport or other identification document of the animal CZK 50
Note: Attestation of the international vaccination passport, or the pet passport, respectively, is also a form of the animal health certificate, provided that the documents comply with the conditions for the import to a third country.

In addition, some Member States require e.g. prior notification or in the case of dogs treatment against Echinococcus multilocularis according to Commission Delegated Regulation (EU) 2018/772. The EU countries requiring this treatment are Malta, Finland, Ireland and the United Kingdom according to Commission Implementing Regulation (EU) 2018/878.
